Disability and Life

Designed with the interests of our members and their needs in mind, LGC HealthTrust offers the following coverage programs.

Life

Life insurance means different things to different people. Depending upon a member's age and lifestyle, it can either be taken for granted, or considered a critical provision for a family's financial security. For an employer, it is a valuable and relatively inexpensive benefit for attracting and retaining employees.

The LGC HealthTrust's life insurance programs offer customizable benefit levels with comprehensive coverage. As with all LGC HealthTrust benefit offerings, life insurance programs are backed up with outstanding customer support and a commitment to service excellence.

We offer a number of term life insurance options that are designed to cost-effectively provide financial protection for employees and their families. Coverage amounts may be based on annual salary—such as one or two times a member's salary—or in flat dollar amounts such as $30,000 or $50,000.

All life coverage options include Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at only pennies per month. This coverage doubles a member’s life benefit in the event of an accidental death and also offers coverage for certain disabling injuries, such as loss of eyesight or limbs. In addition, special features—such as an Employee Accelerated Benefit and Seat Belt Enhancement Benefit—are standard. Disability

When serious illness or an accident strikes, financial considerations can extend well beyond medical coverage. Disability insurance provides valuable financial protection to help disabled members pay for day-to-day living expenses that medical insurance does not cover, such as mortgage, rent, utilities, or groceries.

Without disability income protection, even a relatively short absence from work can be financially devastating. With comprehensive coverage that encourages and supports recovery, member groups covered under LGC HealthTrust disability programs benefit from a positive focus on the employee's return to work and a productive lifestyle.

Short-Term Disability Program
This short-term plan is designed for an individual who becomes disabled through illness or injury while away from work, and will recover in a matter of weeks. In the event that sickness or injury prevents an employee from being able to work, LGC HealthTrust's self-insured, self-administered, short-term disability program provides benefits for 13- or 26-week periods.

Members may select a waiting period after which pay is continued. For example, pay could be provided at up to 66 2/3 percent of compensation, to a maximum of $600 per week.

Our team of experienced professionals help make transitioning from a short- to a long-term disability benefit a seamless experience.

Long-Term Disability Program
The long-term plan picks up where short-term disability leaves off or can be offered on its own. The program includes special features and exceptions that accommodate the individual as well as the member group. Becoming disabled for longer than six months can have serious financial implications for any individual or family. While some members can tap into their savings to get by without working, few people can afford to stop working altogether for an extended period of time.

The long-term disability program provides a benefit of up to 60 percent (or 66 2/3 percent) of a member's salary, to a maximum of $6,000 per month (other amounts available), for as long as the member is disabled, or until he or she reaches age 65, subject to policy guidelines and rules.

This program offers special features such as access to consulting physicians and Social Security specialists, as well as job training and back-to-work programs. Benefits payable through LGC HealthTrust's plan may be offset by other disability benefits, including Social Security or Workers' Compensation. Some limitations apply in the event of mental illness or drug/alcohol abuse.

LGC HealthTrust offers long-term disability protection through an experienced and trusted life insurance company rated "A-" (Excellent) for financial strength by A.M. Best Company.
